Decadent Vegan Chocolate Oreo Balls
This incredibly simple, easy, no-bake dessert is a true crowd pleaser for vegans and non-vegans alike. Look no further than these low-effort, high yield, indulgent chocolate Oreo balls to satisfy your sweet tooth!
I did not realize how badly I needed these chocolate Oreo balls in my life.
So far in my food blogging and cooking endeavors in general, I have been stuck on entrees, hardly dabbling at all in snacks, breads, and desserts. That’s because entrees offer the highest utility on a busy, full time employment schedule, yielding large portions that can feed me throughout the week, allowing for optimized leftovers to be reheated at the office, and packing the most dense nutritional punch of all food in my diet.
Fortunately though, the newfound flexibility I have found in working from home for half the week enables me to create without the leftovers in mind, and to have a bit more fun by venturing into others areas of recipe development. This is a win-win situation, as it diversifies both my skillset as a cook and the delicious recipes I have available for you to enjoy!
I was crossing my fingers that my first-ever dessert would be simple in terms of both measurements and execution, and I was delighted to achieve exactly that in my Oreo ball pursuit. Even as a passionate cook who owns a food scale, I can easily shut down when recipes are presented in terms of grams or ounces. Sometimes, I just want familiar and less precise terms — something that can be hard to come by in dessert recipes.
I am pleased to report that I hardly used my brain at all in the making of this sweet treat, and I was blown away by how effortless and delicious it is. Better yet, it has given me loads more ideas for tasty and easy desserts to bring to the blog, especially as the winter holidays approach (wink).
The only “hard” part of this recipe is melting the chocolate — check out this quick comprehensive guide if you are feeling intimidated!
Recently, an opportunity arose to share this dessert with friends, but I elected not to despite the high yield — selfish, I know. The fact that someone so hell-bent on proper nutrition would keep every serving of an unhealthy treat to herself is a testament to just how delicious this recipe is.
Try it for yourself and let me know what you think in the comments below! For bonus points, try serving this treat to someone who isn’t vegan and tell them it’s a cream cheese chocolate Oreo ball. They will be none the wiser that the dairy is absent!
Decadent 3-Ingredient Vegan Chocolate Oreo Balls
Equipment
- Blender
- Mixing bowl
- Parchment paper or silicon mat lined large baking sheet
- Small saucepan
- Heat-safe bowl to place atop saucepan
Ingredients
- 1 package double-stuff Oreos
- 1 package plain Kite Hill vegan cream cheese
- 1 cup melted chocolate chips I used "Endangered Species" oat + cocoa chips. I also love "Enjoy Life" chocolate chips.
Instructions
- Place all of the Oreos in a blender and blend until fully crumbled. You will likely need to mix a few times to make sure all of them get ground up.
- Place ground Oreos and Kite Hill cream cheese in a mixing bowl. Mix using a rubber spatula or other utensil until the mixture is fully incorporated, forming a creamy paste.
- Prepare baking sheet. One heaping tablespoon at a time, form the Oreo mixture into balls about an inch thick. Place them evenly spaced apart on a baking sheet (they can be very close together, as they will not bake).
- Fill a small saucepan with one or two inches of water, and bring to a boil on the stove. Once boiling, place a heat-safe bowl (such as a glass mixing bowl) atop the saucepan. Make sure the bowl is larger than the saucepan and there is some space between the boiling water and bottom of the bowl.
- Add chocolate chips to the bowl, and mix continuously until all of the chocolate is melted. Remove from heat.
- Using tongs and a rubber spatula, roll each Oreo ball in the melted chocolate until the whole surface is covered. (I grabbed each ball from the baking sheet with tongs, rolled in the chocolate using both utensils, slid the ball to the side of the bowl with the rubber spatula, and grabbed the ball with the tongs to place back on the baking sheet).
- Once all of the Oreo balls are coated in chocolate and placed on the baking sheet, transfer the sheet to the freezer. Freeze for 35 minutes, transfer to the fridge, and enjoy!!
Yeah guys, this is the one. Kite hill is definitely the cream cheese to use. It’s so creamy, but has a neutral flavor. I tried with other brands when kite hill wasn’t available, and the taste was just off. Too “cheesy” tasting. Go kite hill for sure. I have made these numerous times and just get sooo nasty with it. It’s impossible to eat just one. This is the perfect recipe to make to fool the non-vegans in your life that refuse to try anything plant based.
SO. GOOD.
i was skeptical at 1st because of its simplicity, but it turns out those 3 ingredients are all it needs to be absolutely ✨amazing✨ and decadent 😋😋😋
